Offer your Faculty-led Study Abroad Course

through California State University System

California State University System is excited to announce an exciting collaboration between California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) and ARAMFO, whereby ARAMFO will act as a third-party provider for 21 of the faculty-led study abroad programs offered by CSUSB. The purpose of the collaboration is to make available affordable and quality study abroad options to faculty and students throughout North America. All the programs are backed by the risk management policies of the California State University system, subject to final approval.

Program details. Under this initiative, we have worked programs and itineraries for 21 destinations around the world. Draft itineraries are available at ARAMFO.org, and include three extended half-day academic workshops involving course-related field visits to places of faculty choice, one on-site orientation, six two-hour course conversations, and cultural visits to several cities in a nation. Highlights covered in each destination are attached here.

You are invited. All programs will have a course associated with them. Any faculty teaching at any of the North American colleges will be able to offer their course through CSUSB, as an adjunct faculty. Courses are delivered approximately 50% before and after the study abroad trip face-to-face and/or online, and approximately 50% during the trip. The faculty will receive compensation of $330/student, for a 4.5 quarter units (i.e. 3 semester credits) course. One faculty travel cost (including all meals) is covered for every ten students. For the faculty, Center for Global Management at CSUSB will cover the visa costs and pay mileage/ US airport transfer up to $100 based on actuals.

Easy Application Process: Your students will be able to pay program fees and tuition fees directly to CSUSB, by check, money order, OR credit card (credit card processing fees applicable). Students will pay tuition fees of only $990 for a 4.5 quarter units (i.e. 3 semester credits) course, and will receive a transcript from CSUSB to facilitate credit transfer to their home institution.

Vision: This initiative is focused on intensive short-term faculty –led study abroad. It is intensive, because it involves travel for only 12 days, but includes a packed itinerary full of workshops, conversations, excursions, and activities in more than one city of the destination country. It is faculty-led, so a group of ten or more students travel with a faculty. This is the fastest growing form of study abroad in the US, especially for the first generation students who may not participate in longer-term independent study abroad for a variety of cultural, family, work, and financial reasons. Research suggests that faculty-led programs offer an equally effective transformative experience to the students, and is often the basis for students to then become confident and interested in exploring longer-term study abroad, or overseas internships, community service, or careers during or after their graduation. It also results in developing fruitful connections in other nations, and promotes international trade and other exchanges.
